    What Does LiFePO4 Cell Batch Traceability Mean?

    Batch traceability is the ability to follow a product through a chain such as:

    manufacturer and model → production batch or serial range → test record → quotation → packing record → receiving record

    The exact identifier can vary. A supplier may use a batch number, lot number, serial range, production code, QR code, product number or another identification mark. These terms are not automatically interchangeable.

    A QR code can be useful because it may point to an internal record, but a visible QR code is not proof that the cell is genuine, new, matched or suitable for a particular battery. A “314Ah” label is a product description, not a complete quality record. A “Grade A” label is a commercial claim whose meaning and evidence must be clarified for the exact order.

    For a high-value or large order, ask for a redacted example of the record before payment. The purpose is to confirm the fields, not to expose private customer information.     5. Check That Every Document Uses the Same Identity

    Create a simple cross-reference before accepting the evidence pack:

    6. Do Not Treat UN38.3 or an SDS as a Batch-Quality Certificate

    Transport and hazard documents have an important but limited role.

    The U.S. PHMSA explains that the lithium-battery test summary relates to the design tests in subsection 38.3 of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria and includes standardized information that supports traceability for designs offered for transport. That does not make a UN38.3 test summary a capacity report, a matching report, an inverter-compatibility statement or an installation approval.

    An SDS communicates hazard, handling, storage and emergency information under the applicable framework. It normally does not identify the measured capacity or internal resistance of every cell in your order.

    • whether the quoted quantity comes from one batch or multiple batches;
    • which capacity, voltage, internal-resistance or matching records cover this exact reference;
    • the test method, current, cutoffs, temperature, rest conditions and date where applicable;
    • the datasheet revision and model code used for the quotation;
    • a redacted example of the relevant test or matching record;
    • dated photographs showing the model marks, labels, terminals and shipment packaging;

    9. What to Record When the Cells Arrive

    Batch traceability is not finished when the files arrive in your inbox. At delivery, connect the evidence pack to the physical shipment:

    1. Photograph the outer package and shipping marks before opening it.
    2. Record the order number, package count and visible batch or serial information.
    3. Compare the model, quantity and labels with the quotation and packing list.
    4. Photograph any damaged cartons, terminals, cases or insulation.

    • the supplier will not state the exact model code;
    • “Grade A” is the only quality evidence offered;
