    First Decide What Is Actually Being Shipped

    “LiFePO4 battery shipment” is too broad to be a shipping instruction. A single cell, a series-connected battery, a DIY kit containing cells and a complete pre-assembled battery can have different transport treatment. Has the shipment been stopped and escalated to a qualified dangerous-goods professional or carrier? What isolation and emergency instructions apply?

    What the Packaging Must Achieve

    The correct question is not “can these cells fit in a cardboard box?” It is “does the complete package prevent the reasonably foreseeable damage and movement identified by the applicable shipping instruction?”

    For an intact cell or battery shipment, the pack-out normally needs to address at least four physical risks:

    • Short circuit: terminals and conductive parts must be prevented from contacting one another or the package in a way that creates a hazardous path.
    • Movement: cells, packs and accessories must be restrained so that shifting cannot damage terminals, cases, insulation or internal connections.
    • Impact and compression: the inner arrangement and outer package must protect the article from the handling conditions allowed by the route and package specification.
    • Identification: the final package must remain connected to the product and documents after the outer carton is closed.

    The exact separator, terminal cover, insert, carton, pallet, closure and package performance requirement must be selected for the actual article and route. Do not publish or quote a universal foam thickness, carton grade, stacking height or “safe number of cells per box” unless it comes from the applicable packaging instruction and is confirmed for the shipment.

    • The product identity matches the purchase order, datasheet and planned document set.
    • Cases, terminals, vents, insulation and protective covers show no new damage or abnormal condition.
    • No cell or pack is swollen, leaking, wet, overheated, crushed, punctured or giving another reason to stop the normal workflow.
    • The quantity in the work area matches the quantity in the packing instruction.
    • Accessories, busbars, cables and hardware are separated or protected so they cannot contact terminals unexpectedly.

    • The exact package configuration is photographed before closure.

    If the product fails the gate, do not hide the issue by changing the description to “parts” or “accessories.” Quarantine the item and ask the carrier or qualified dangerous-goods professional for the correct next step.     Terminal Protection and Internal Separation

    Prismatic cells may have exposed terminals. A packing instruction should therefore describe how terminal contact is prevented throughout handling, not only how the box looks when it leaves the warehouse.

    Outer Package, Closure and Pallet Evidence

    Avoid a supplier answer that consists only of “UN38.3 available,” “normal export packaging” or “DDP included.” Those phrases may be starting points, but they do not identify the exact document revision, physical pack-out, route acceptance or responsibility for a mismatch.

    Red Flags That Should Pause the Shipment

    Pause and request clarification when any of these conditions appears:

    • The model on the test summary does not exactly match the model on the quote or carton.
    • A cell-only document is being used to describe a complete assembled battery without pack-level review.
    • The quantity, watt-hours, package count or weight differs between invoice, packing list and carrier booking.
