Input power note: The wide AC input range does not guarantee full rated output at every input voltage. For 110V or 120V installations, confirm available output power before ordering.

CAN Control or Enable Control

Each charger is supplied with one control method only. These are separate configurations, not switchable modes.

Control Option How It Works What to Provide
CAN Control Charging is controlled through compatible CAN communication with your BMS or controller. Battery specifications, CAN protocol and baud rate
Enable Control We preset the charger to your battery specifications. An external enable signal activates charging without BMS-to-charger CAN communication. Battery specifications, required charging settings

Choose CAN control when your system requires communication-based charging control and the protocol can be matched.

Choose enable control when you want a preconfigured charging setup without CAN integration. The battery still requires appropriate BMS protection, and the enable interface must match your control circuit.

CC / CP Function

CC/CP is used for communication between the vehicle-side charging system and the AC charging station (EVSE), including connection confirmation and charging permission/current information.

This function is typically relevant when the vehicle is charged through an EV charging inlet, such as a Type 2 connection. If your system already handles these signals through a separate EVCC or vehicle controller, the OBC itself may not need CC/CP.

1.8kW OBC: CC/CP is not supported.
3.3kW & 6.6kW OBC: The hardware supports CC/CP, but the function is not enabled in the standard software. Please specify CC/CP requirements before ordering.

Built-In Protection

  • Input overvoltage and undervoltage protection.

  • Output overvoltage, overcurrent and short-circuit protection.

  • Battery reverse-polarity protection.

  • Internal overtemperature protection: derating starts at 85°C; shutdown at 90°C.

  • CAN communication fault protection and BMS communication-loss shutdown — CAN version only.

Package Contents & Wiring

The charger comes with matching mating connectors only. Cables, wiring harnesses, AC mains plugs and DC battery-side plugs are not included. Customers must provide and wire suitable cables and plugs for their installation.

Need a custom wiring harness or plug configuration? Contact AmpBird before ordering for assistance.

QUESTIONS ET RÉPONSES

Foire aux questions

Which 1.8kW OBC model should I choose for my battery?
The OBC should be selected according to the actual charging voltage and current required by your battery pack, not only its nominal voltage. Please provide the battery chemistry, number of cells in series, maximum charging voltage and maximum charging current. We can check the requirements and help confirm the appropriate model before ordering.
Can I choose CAN or Enable control?
Yes. The 1.8kW OBC is available with either CAN control or Enable control. These are two different control configurations and should be selected before ordering. With CAN control, charging is managed according to the communication protocol between the BMS and OBC. With Enable control, an external isolated signal is used to start and stop the charger.
Will the CAN version work with my BMS?
The charger is configured by default to communicate with Orion and ZEVA BMS. If you are unsure whether your BMS protocol is compatible, send us the CAN protocol and our engineers can check it before ordering. If your project uses a different or custom CAN protocol, please contact us for protocol matching and configuration support.
Does the 1.8kW OBC support CC/CP?
No. The 1.8kW OBC does not support CC/CP. If your vehicle uses an AC charging inlet or EVSE that requires CC/CP handling, these signals will need to be managed separately by the vehicle-side charging system. If CC/CP needs to be handled by the OBC itself, please contact us about our 3.3kW or 6.6kW models before ordering.
Can the charger deliver 1.8kW from a 110V AC supply?
No. The charger accepts a wide AC input range, but available output power depends on the AC supply. According to the specification, maximum output power is approximately 800W at 110V AC and 1800W at 220V AC. This difference should be considered when estimating charging time.
How does the charger charge a lithium battery?
The charger uses a CC/CV charging profile configured for the battery pack. Depending on battery voltage, charging can begin with a pre-charge stage, followed by constant-current charging. When the configured maximum charging voltage is reached, the charger changes to constant-voltage charging until the current falls to the configured termination level.
Is the charger suitable for installation on a vehicle?
The charger uses a fully sealed IP67 enclosure and fan cooling, with an operating temperature range of -30°C to +65°C. Built-in protection includes output overvoltage, output overcurrent, short circuit, input undervoltage, charger overtemperature and battery overtemperature protection. The charger weighs approximately 3.6kg.
What information should I provide before ordering?
Please provide: (1) battery chemistry, (2) number of cells in series, (3) maximum charging voltage, (4) maximum charging current, (5) CAN or Enable control, (6) CAN protocol and baud rate if CAN is selected, and (7) available AC input voltage. For replacement or conversion projects, you can also send us the existing charger's nameplate, connector photos and basic wiring information so we can check the application.
